Antique FurnitureMany people receive pieces of furniture that have been left to them from an estate or at times a piece will be purchased from a dealer or an antique show. One of the important decisions with the piece is which room to you want to have it in. As a designer I try to place it in a prominent place in the room where it is not going to be near the traffic flow in and out of the room. Then there is less chance of being knocked into or chipped. What kind of condition is the piece in? Does it need to have the wood repaired? The upholstery – what condition is it in and the colour of the fabric will it work? Next is how to make it work with the décor of the room. Does it need to have the wood restained? I take the antique piece and really study it. I check the era from which it came and what colour would be the best to stain the wood for it to retain its value and look in the room. I source to find the perfect fabric for the piece. The most valuable part of restoration is making sure that the fabric and wood stain is right. I only use the best in wood refinishing and upholstery work for these treasured pieces. The piece pictured here is from the early 1800 in England and was badly damaged from neglect and storing. Once it was restored, it was appraised for insurance purposes at double the original value amount. Give your antique furniture a makeover - give us a call. |
