Bathroom RenovationsBathrooms are becoming more and more a retreat from the everyday stresses of life. Some place to just shut the door and soak in the tub and just relax. Cutting into a walk in closet to make an ensuite bath larger is one way of building that luxurious spa feel. For ideas give us a call. Renovation of a bathroom in Burlington This bathroom was in a 20 year old townhouse in Burlington and needed a complete makeover. The sink was in a white very cheap builder vanity and the taps had started to leak a bit. The tub was in the same well used condition and the tiles had cracked grout work. The toilet had leaked at one time down into the kitchen ceiling below and had been repaired and the ceiling painted. The decision was easy, let’s gut it. The client wanted a more sumpuous looking bathroom and therefore we started sourcing for tile. The look of the tile sets the design of the bathroom and we worked from there once it is chosen. This tile was to be on the tub surround and floor and to make the bathroom with a more rich look we added it to the tub skirt. We then put in a low water usage toilet with the elonagated basin area and a warm water toilet seat. The vanity was a lovely oval shape to provide more space in the bathroom and came with a marble vanity top. Wall sconces and wallpaper added to the design of the room. Renovation of a bathroom in Mississauga This bathroom was in a ranch style house about thirty years old in Mississauga. The senior owner was having problems with not enough light in the bathroom and getting in and out of the tub. The tiles and grouting were very old and tired looking. The vanity was very small and had no storage space. There was a long wall on the left side of the bathroom which made it very narrow. We would have like to have removed that wall and use the space of the bedroom closet behind but the owner really liked her big closet in the bedroom for storing winter clothes. We started with adding a tub with jets, giving the client the option of using the jets to relieve any soreness from her arthritis. We chose one that was not too deep and and had inside the tub built in hand grips for getting in and out of the tub. A partial glass shower enclosure provided the protection from the shower spray when she had a shower but gave her a more open feeling for when getting out of the tub. Hand grips were also installed on the side and back wall of the tub area. The tile was chosen in a travertine finish in cream and we used the large 24” tiles in order to make the area appear larger. The toilet was an elongated toilet and was set higher for the client to use. The vanity we had made in a custom fit with an oval mirror, stone countertop, glass tile trim and undermount sink. Lots of drawers were also a request for storage. Murray Feiss towel bars and toilet roll holder added to the final finish of the room. We installed potlights in the ceiling for more light and a combination shower light and heat lamp in the shower area. This gave the client the option for use if she was feeling cold that day.
